With the new Kinder year now upon us, we are eagerly anticipating the start of the ELSA (STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics) pilot program run by the University of Canberra.

Altona Kindergarten was fortunate to be chosen as 1 of 100 preschool services to participate in this exciting program.

ELSA is a new program designed to help children explore the four corner stones of STEM through both hands-on and digital activities. The digital activities will be delivered through ELSA apps on iPads at the kindergarten.

As we await the beginning of the pilot, the children have already begun their own STEM learning with our educators, exploring the natural world around them.

Through the ELSA pilot, the children will explore STEM practices such as:

  • Problem solving
  • Communication
  • Creativity
  • Curiosity

These ideas and methods are at the heart of STEM and will help the children develop strong lifelong skills and values.

Visit the ELSA website if you would like to find out further information about the program.
